About Design Weekend
The Hyperloop, a high-speed ground transport concept first proposed by SpaceX and Tesla Motors co-founder Elon Musk in 2013, will get a jump start on development through the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition Design Weekend at Texas A&M University on Jan. 29-30, 2016.
Some of the best and brightest engineering minds from around the world will be coming to Texas A&M for Design Weekend. More than 100 university teams will present their design concepts to a panel of judges on how to transform the Hyperloop from bold vision to reality. Top teams will move on to build their pods and test them at the world’s first Hyperloop Test Track being built adjacent to SpaceX’s Hawthorne, California, headquarters in summer 2016.
During the two-day competition, more than 1,000 bright young innovators will enjoy down time in the Hall of Champions at Kyle Field, which will be transformed into a hub of innovation for futuristic transportation with hands-on experiential displays. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx has confirmed his attendance, along with many SpaceX and Tesla employees.
